Battle stations

My battle stations throughout the ages.

Keeping a history of my battle stations is not something I have intentionally done. It just seems like I really enjoy taking pictures of my set up, and one day looking back on my data I was like... I actually have quite a few of these.

In honour of this, every future battle station shall be recorded as there are many gaps in the battle station record as of now. My plan is to record every battle station here until I die.

2006

The oldest picture I have of a battle station.

That red disk is deus ex. I thought if I left the cover off my PC would run cooler and therefore faster.

2007

Not full battle station but I guess I was moving things around. Why did I have 4 dvd/cd drives? Look a floppy drive!

2010

I can't function with such a small desk now. Theres something about this small computer desks that seems reto, do people still use them? I need a massive desk to philosophise on.

Yes that is dodgy satellite TV I'm enjoying via a DVB-S card. I imagine the statute of limitations has passed?

2011

That thing next to the Wii is a PS3. Had a borked power supply so hacked on a PC power supply. It worked quite well but sometimes the two big metal clips on the negative and positive things would touch and sparks would fly.

Also Wii with the homebrew OS is an underated device, I need to get one again. The emulation potential...

Also note the awesome CPU fan, when it spun the LEDs would generate writing and it would tell you the current temperature of the CPU.

Last thing of interest is the stack of blank DVDs next to the machine. I guess it was still a thing back then to burn shit to disks.

2012

Not too different I just messed around with the config. I had some really comfy floor seats to crash on and Id just sit watching curb your enthusiasm which I still enjoy.

2013

Set up got a massive upgrade. This is when the massive table obsession started. This might actually be be THE greatest set ups I've ever had just because of the corner desk. Not sure about using a 720p tv as a monitor though...

I bought the table from an actual gypsy for 100 sterling. It was saved from a closing school and given a second life.

Yes that is a C64

When I settle down one day... I'm going to get a shit load of old computers.

Also note the tenner... that was a shit load back then when the Britain was still great.

I pretty much had this setup for another 3 years.... It just reached a peak, there was no real need to change until I had to leave.

I eventually moved the TV away from my computer some months later. But close enough to have a massive HDMI cable connected. It was cool to kick back a bit away from the machine after a long coding session.

2018

Again quite a large table, but not a great pic. I was obsessed with thinkpads, and with good reason. To this day the Thinkpad with that keyboard was my favourite machine of all time. I thought it would be pretty funny to put my foot on my work macbook as a sign of disrespect at apple. I also had a gaming machine with crappy specs but its out of sight.

Not much pics from this era, I guess I had the same iteration for the most part, massive desks, monitor and a few books not too much of interest to warrant a picture.

2024

Click thing to boogie...
